Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes more emphasis on skin hydration. Happy, healthy skin gives you that lustrous glow that’s silky smooth to the touch. And who doesn’t want that?

To achieve lovely skin health, you likely need to learn more about moisturizing. I want to help you do just that!

Here are 5 simple ways you can keep your skin hydrated no matter what time of year it is.

Create a Daily Skin Care Ritual

One area we all should pay attention to is our daily skincare ritual. It’s easy to get caught up going through the same motions every single day. Cleanse, tone, moisturize repeat.

But, what if your skin care ritual were hurting your skin, instead of helping it? It could be.

I highly recommend experimenting with different types of skin care regimens. Try out different products and see how your skin reacts. Give the routine at least 2 weeks to take effect, however. Otherwise, you could be shortcutting those benefits.

Also, don’t forget to try out natural solutions. Make your own skin care cleansers and moisturizers to see if your skin reacts better. I find this process fun, and once you find something that works for your skin you’ll be so grateful.

Hydrate Like Your Skin Depends On It—Because it Does!

Nothing can replace great skin hydration production. Hydration also depends on the amount of water you are consuming. Make sure you are getting the proper amount of water per day based on your body weight.

Consuming natural, spring water is my recommendation. If you rather, get a great water filter to filter out impurities in your tap water to save money.

However, you decide to get your daily water intake, make sure you do so consistently if you’d like to have the best results.

Avoid Hot Water

Hot water is well documented to strip your skin of moisture and the necessary oil that keeps your skin lubricated. This results in dehydrated skin. Instead of using super hot water for your showers and skin washing regime, try warm water instead. And if you can stand it, there are loads of studies on the benefits of cold water and cold showers, including lymphatic drainage, so try it out if you dare!

Protect Your Skin

Daily skin protection is critical to prevent premature aging and wrinkles. Skin protection can come in many forms. The first is SPF. Daily SPF can prevent aging caused by UV rays. Another way to protect the skin, especially during the colder months of winter, is to use a scarf around your face and neck. This will keep cold wind from penetrating your face, whisking away moisture while it is at it. Skin hydration is as much prevention as it is action, so keep this time in mind.

Eat Water-Dense Foods

Skin hydration and moisturizing don’t just happen on the outside, it’s also what we take in. While water is obviously important, eating water-dense foods is also important. Some of my favorite foods include:

  • Watermelon
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Strawberries
  • Spinach
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Cantaloupe

Try to incorporate these foods into your daily diet as often as possible.
