In a previous post, I touched on the benefits of dry brushing for your skin, but today’s post will go a bit further into the benefits of lymphatic massage specifically as a cellulite treatment.
For many women, cellulite causes anxiety, embarrassment, and even depression. The good news is, there are ways to curb cellulite and regain a smooth appearance on your skin. But first, let’s take a look at what cellulite is.
What is Cellulite & How Does it Develop?
The exact causes of cellulite are not known, but what is known is women develop cellulite at a much faster rate than men. Approximately 80 to 90 percent of women have cellulite. Cellulite itself happens when fat deposits push connective tissue beneath the skin. This causes a dimpling or an orange peel like affect on the skin.
As we age, the skin also becomes less elastic, which makes us more susceptible to cellulite development. Hormonal changes too can contribute to cellulite development as well as an inactive lifestyle and certain dietary habits.
The most common places to develop cellulite include the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, and even arms. Some women also develop it on their breasts and under their arms.
Interestingly, there are different grades of cellulite. A mild case of cellulite includes 1 to 4 impressions of surface dimpling and a sagging skin appearance. The most severe case is a grade 3 and it creates a mattress like effect on the skin with 10 or more impressions of dimpling.
Diet Tips to Get Rid of Cellulite
Create a Meal Schedule:
Eat at the same time each day to train your brain when to expect food. Then, if you find yourself still hungry in between Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, set aside a few good-for-you snacks.
Consume Healthy Fats:
Healthy fats include avocados, nuts and seeds, and olive oil. Add them to your diet and don’t shy away just because they contain fat. In the right amount, these fats can be great for reducing excess weight which often leads to cellulite.
Add Spices to Your Diet:
Another tool for getting rid of cellulite is to incorporate the right spices into your diet. Crushed red pepper, paprika, and chili powder have capsaicin which can help you eat less. Add them to your diet for a boost.
Aside from these diet tips, I also highly recommend my list of lymphatic friendly foods.
