I love to add new and improved methods for reducing stress and improving health to my skills. Recently, I took on Indian Head Massage (IHM) and I am over the moon excited to share with you my thoughts on this unique approach to massage.

Today, I’d like to briefly cover this topic to help you decide if it is right for you.

What is Indian Head Massage?

Indian Head Massage (IHM) is based on an ancient Indian healing system called Ayurveda, which means “knowledge of life.” Indian mothers have given these nurturing massages to their children for over 4000 years.

There are many variations of IHM, and they can comfortably be performed seated or lying down. The name implies head massage, but the neck and shoulders are also incorporated for a more relaxing session.

The strokes incorporated into this lovely treatment are both stimulating and soothing while relaxing and resetting the entire nervous system.

Indian head massage is a valuable technique for combating stress which can show up in the form of migraine, tension headache, hair loss, insomnia or eyestrain.

Indian Head Massage Benefits

Not that you aren’t already dying to have an Indian Head Massage after reading that description, but I also want to share some of the amazing benefits of this massage technique with you.

Benefit #1. General Relaxation

In today’s crazy world, we often find ourselves rushing from one thing to the next, never giving ourselves a chance to slow down and relax.

That’s where massage can help. General muscle relaxation allows us to unwind and let go of the day’s worries. Through the power of touch, our muscles can relax, especially those affected by stress. Both our head, neck, and shoulders tend to be where we carry tension. By massaging them we can experience instant relief.

Benefit #2. Circulation Improvement

Another area where your body benefits from Indian Head Massage is circulation. Massage is well documented to improve blood circulation. However, IHM provides circulation to areas of the body where we particularly need help—the head and neck. This includes providing the brain with extra oxygen. Improved circulation also reduces pain and inflammation which can lead to chronic issues.

Benefit #3. Promotes Hair Health

That’s right, an Indian head massage can even improve your hair health! It does this by strengthening roots and nourishing hair shafts at their source. If you are looking to improve your luscious locks, then I would highly recommend IHM.

Benefit #4. Nourishes and Moisturizes the Scalp

Indian Head Massage is done in accordance with ayurvedic oils. These oils nourish and moisturize your hair and scalp. These areas of our body are often neglected. If you don’t pay attention to these areas, you could end up with scalp issues and dry skin. However, regular IHM reverses the process and improves your scalp health.

Benefit #5. Supports the Nervous System

Another physical benefit of IHM is that it alleviates stress. It does this by encouraging the elimination of toxins, increases oxygen uptake in tissues and improves concentration. If you want to feel your best, then consider this type of massage.
