Did you know that beauty products like nail polish, makeup, shampoo, and many personal care products lack safety data?

I personally have been shocked by how toxic many of the most common beauty products are. Just reading the label of your average shampoo bottle can reveal countless poisonous chemicals.

As a lymphatic massage therapist, I’m concerned with how toxins in beauty products affect our lymphatic system.

I’ve outlined some information about beauty toxins and how they damage our lymphatic system below to spread awareness.

The Most Common Toxins in Beauty Products that Block the Lymph System

The Big Three Offenders

Botox

The ingredients inside Botox are toxic to the body. In rare cases, an injection of Botox can cause lymphadenopathy, which causes a swollen lymph node after damage to the tissue trauma in the area surrounding the nodes.

Breast Implants

Breast implants themselves aren’t necessarily toxic to the lymph system, but if they leak, degrade or rupture, they can be. Natural lymphatic system activity is inherently blocked when you have surgery, and proper drainage of toxins is stunted when your body is in a post-op state. Breast implants can cause the same condition that Botox can: lymphadenopathy. These risks are in place for anyone who decides to have breast implants.

Deodorant

Propylene Glycol is the primary toxin in deodorant. In doses of just 2%, it can cause severe problems in the body, especially the nervous system. However, most deodorants are 50% propylene glycol. Since lymph nodes are the body’s gateway to removing toxins through perspiration, the toxins in deodorant can hinder the detox process, and this causes damage to the lymph system.

Other Ingredients Damaging Your Lymph System

A few of the other most common toxins in beauty products include the following:

  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Fragrances
  • Petroleum Jelly
  • Phthalates

How To Detox the Lymphatic System

A healthy lymphatic system is the key to feeling and looking your best. Healthy skin that is free from toxins glows differently. If you want to detox the lymphatic system, to keep your skin and body healthy, there are a few things you can do.

Clean Water

Stay hydrated! The lymph system relies on fluid to pump out and remove toxins from the body. I recommend sipping on warm water with a slight bit of lemon every morning to kickstart your body’s lymph system and helps you stay hydrated.

Bounce

Did you know you can bounce your way to a healthier lymphatic system? You can! In fact, it’s one of my favorite techniques to get rid of toxins in your body. It strengthens your immune system and improves your circulation. Try a small exercise trampoline for the best results.

Stretch

Yoga is effective for moving lymph out of the body. Hold your stretches for as long as you can while breathing deeply. You’ll also be amazed by how good it makes your entire body feel.

Lymphatic Massage

Of course, investing in lymphatic massage therapy is my number one tip to detox your lymphatic system. Lymphatic massage reduces swelling, detoxifies the body, and regenerates tissues and cells. Schedule a massage with me today if you’re worried about toxins in your beauty products.
